It was the first time she didn’t do a count down to her birthday month. Didn’t feel April slowly approaching like a city skyline – where at one point you see the whole thing stretching out before you, and the next you’re in it, among the buildings. She just woke up at her destination. Finally “here.” Arrived at something unusual. Thank goodness for the spring, though. For giving her back to herself. For forgiving her winter, when all seemed so lost, and so cold, and so hard to make out through the flurry. Now it was hay fever. But at least it was warm.
