Advice Post: How To Be Exceptional

Ever feel like you’re meant to do something great with your life, something that will change the world? I do, but I’m not sure what exactly that is yet.. It’s frustrating but exhilarating considering I’m still 21 and have the rest of my life to figure it out. Reading your blog to me is somewhat like taking a page out of my own journal of life but from a different perspective. Thanks for keeping it real… the world needs more people like you.

Yes, I feel exactly that. I feel like I am meant to do something great with my life that will change the world and it is quite an overwhelming feeling. But I am certain more people than not in our generation feel this way. In a way, the need to be exceptional is an attribute of American culture; we promote the idea that anyone can be anything when meanwhile, no, not anyone can be anything. Americans suffer from more depression and anxiety than folks in other countries because we feel if we do not achieve something extraordinary with our lives we have failed. This is not the case, and yet I am not immune to this sentiment. What honestly gives me motivation to keep searching for and building on whatever it is I am going to contribute to this world are posts, like this, from the readers of this blog, who keep words of encouragement flowing. Thank you.
